Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on 9 August 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney, she began singing with the choir of the church when she was a young child. at the age of 15, she accompanied her mother singing background vocals on Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978. She then went on to perform backing vocals for Lou Rawls, Jermaine, and even her mother. She started as a featured singer for New York-based New York Funk band Material. The quality of her vocal work attracted attention from major record label Arista which she joined in 1983. In 1985, Whitney Houston's debut album turned out to be one of the most successful debut albums ever. On the album, she had several smash singles, including Saving All My Love for You How Will You Know That You're a Good Person And The More Love of All. This resulted in her having seven US Number Ones consecutively. She beat even the Beatles. The album's first US year the album sold over 3 million units. Then it went on to be bought by over more than 25 million worldwide, earning her the first Grammy. The Whitney album released in 1987 which featured the songs that I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to continue her popularity. It came with The Bodyguard of 1992 that made her one of the biggest-selling performers in the history of music. While her movie performance and its soundtrack were not well-received, her Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You and the accompanying album topped charts across the world for several months. Their daughter Bobbi is born the month of March of 1993, the year after she wed Bobby Brown. In 1996 her daily use of drugs was documented.
